Definitely not! We live outside of the boundaries, so “typical” isn’t a word we’d use. We differentiate ourselves from the upcycled world by focusing on our community’s available resources and current needs. We demonstrate that you don’t have to sacrifice style in order to put people and the planet first. Every one of our pieces has a unique story, including where it came from and who made it.

We create all kinds of sewn products, but our core offerings at this time are bags, totes, accessories, travel, and work gear. We generally make these products in batches for conscious corporations, nonprofits, and groups that require promotional products, event gear, or sustainable swag. We also design and make our own line of products, sold in our online shop. We have experience making men's and women's apparel, children's wear, outerwear, accessories, soft goods, leather goods, and so much more. As we grow, partner, and deepen our impact in the community, we’ll be introducing new designs, textiles, and products for conscious consumers across our community and around the globe.
Great question. We partner with area manufacturers to keep post-industrial textiles out of our landfills. We do not take used (post-consumer) materials. We are looking for companies that have textile waste that can be upcycled into quality products at regular intervals. Ideally, our suppliers are also interested in purchasing products made from the materials they contribute. We use everything from scraps of leather to wool samples, mesh, vinyl, nylon, 3D knit, banners, billboards, grain bags from breweries, webbing, and more. Learn more on our Contribution page.
We do not have a brick-and-mortar storefront, but our products are available for purchase through our online shop! Throughout the year, we host pop-up shops, too. We love to connect with our customers in person, so check out our Events page to learn more about upcoming shopping opportunities.
Great question. Our name, Public Thread, comes from the Latin publius, which means “doing together what you cannot do alone”. We can only achieve our larger goals with the help of our community. Our impact may be small compared to the overwhelming size of the problem, but we cannot in good conscience stand idle while so much waste is happening around us.
